Hypnotherapy

Deep rest, and room to change

Hypnotherapy is simply a very relaxed, very focused state — the same one you slip into on a long walk or just before sleep. In that state, helpful suggestions land far more easily than they do in the noise of an ordinary day.

What it is — and what it is not

You are not asleep, not unconscious and not under anyone's control. You can hear everything, you can speak, and you can open your eyes and stop at any moment.

It is not stage hypnosis. There is no performance, nothing to prove, and nothing you will be asked to do that you have not agreed to beforehand.

The process

We spend the first part of the session talking: what you would like to be different, and the exact wording that feels true to you. Then you settle comfortably while I guide you into relaxation and we work with those words.

You come back gently, we talk about what you noticed, and you leave with a short recording or practice to use at home. Sessions run around ninety minutes.

Often used for

  • Sleep that will not settle
  • Everyday anxiety and a mind that will not switch off
  • Confidence before something that matters
  • Habits you would like to loosen your grip on
  • Calm and focus through a demanding season

Safety and reassurance

  • Consent first: nothing happens without you agreeing to it
  • You stay aware and can end the session whenever you wish
  • Everything discussed stays private
  • Complementary support — please keep your GP involved for medical concerns

Frequently asked questions

What people usually want to know before their first hypnotherapy session.

What does hypnotherapy actually feel like?
Like the drowsy, absorbed state just before sleep, or the way a long drive passes without you noticing. You stay aware, you can hear me, and you can open your eyes and stop at any moment. Nobody is put under and nobody loses control.
How long is a session?
Sessions run around ninety minutes for the first appointment — we talk properly about what you want to change before any hypnosis — and around sixty minutes after that.
How many sessions will I need?
Many people notice a shift within three or four sessions, and habit-focused work is often shorter still. Longstanding patterns can take longer. We review together as we go rather than committing you to a fixed package.
How should I prepare?
Come rested if you can, eat something light, and avoid alcohol beforehand. Wear comfortable clothes and pick somewhere quiet and undisturbed if we are meeting online, with headphones and a good connection. Give yourself a gentle half hour afterwards rather than rushing straight into something demanding.
Is there anyone hypnotherapy is not suitable for?
Sessions are for over 18s only. Please speak to your GP or care team first if you are living with epilepsy, psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, a dissociative condition, or are in an acute mental health crisis. Hypnotherapy is complementary and never replaces medical or psychiatric treatment, medication or therapy. Don't attend under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs, and if you are in crisis contact your GP or emergency services rather than booking.
Will I remember the session?
Almost always, yes — most people remember it much as they would a conversation. You keep everything you say private, and you can't be made to reveal or do anything against your wishes.

Rest, then change

Sessions run online or in person across the Highlands. Choose a time that suits you and we will take the first step together.
